Esta pieza es el resultado de unos talleres impartidos con los pacientes del Hospital Psiquiátrico Fray Bernardino Álvarez, México DF, el hospital más importante en psiquiatría de Latinoamérica.
La obra es la representación física de varias conversaciones con un paciente esquizofrénico llamado Erick. Su creación fue un trabajo mutuo; la obra se proyecta mediante unos videos no sonoros de la gestualidad de nuestras manos en plena conversación y sus correspondientes moldes-guantes de nuestras manos congeladas en un momento escogido por nosotros mismos, momento que contiene un significado especial, importante o significativo.
Erick pintó sus guantes-moldes, y en los colores escogidos expresaba/reflejaba el estado de ánimo o sensaciones que tenía en ese momento. De manera paralela en esta propuesta se analiza la comunicación y los factores que entran en juego en el proceso comunicativo, principalmente en los factores no verbales, en la comunicación mediante expresión o lenguaje corporal desprovisto de palabras.
La comunicación es un “proceso de transferencia y comprensión de conocimientos dentro de un marco de una búsqueda común; siendo ésta la generación y creación de conocimiento”.
La acción de comunicar ocurre cuando se establece una relación entre un emisor y un receptor; donde la comunicación puede fluir en una dirección o en una doble dirección (pregunta-respuesta), clave central del proyecto, si esta reciprocidad existía entre artista-paciente durante las conversaciones, y posteriormente durante la realización de la pieza.
La mayoría de las personas son conscientes de los movimientos de las manos de los demás pero no les prestan atención porque los considera faltos de significado, pero esto no es así, los ademanes comunican, ya sea revelando emociones involuntariamente o aclarando mensajes verbales.
Cada cultura posee sus propios movimientos, pero existen algunos universales. Estos movimientos universales se deben a las limitaciones del ser humano. Este lenguaje puede transmitir muchas cosas, nos puede decir, por ejemplo el origen étnico de la persona, su estilo personal o la tensión que está soportando el individuo.
Este proyecto confiere más importancia al proceso que al resultado de la obra.
This piece is the result of some workshops given with patients of the Psychiatric Hospital Fray Bernardino Álvarez, Mexico City, the largest psychiatric hospital in Latin America.
The piece is the physical representation of various conversations with a schizophrenic patient named Erick. Its creation was a collaborative work; the piece projected through some silent videos of the gesturalness of our hands in full conversation and their corresponding gloves cast of our hands frozen in a moment hidden by ourselves, a moment that contains a special significance, important or significant.
Erick painted his glove-casts, and in the chosen colours the mood or sensations that he had at that moment were expressed/reflected. In parallel in this proposal the communication and the factors that come into play in the communicative process are analysed, principally in the non-verbal factors, in the communication by expression or corporeal language devoid of words.
Communication is a "process of transference and comprehension of knowledge within a framework of a common pursuit; this being the generation and creation of knowledge".
The action of communicating occurs when establishing a relationship between a transmitter and a receiver; where communication can flow in one direction or in a two-way direction (question-response), a key that is central to the project, if this reciprocity exists between artist-patient during the conversations, and subsequently during the making of the piece.
The majority of people are conscious of the movements of others' hands but do not pay attention to them because they consider them lacking in significance, but this is not the case, others communicate, either revealing emotions involuntarily or clarifying verbal messages.
Every culture has its own movements, but some universal ones exist. These universal movements are due to the limitations of the human being. This language can transmit many things, can tell us, for example the ethnic origin of the person, their personal style or the tension that the individual is carrying.[1]
This project confers more importance to the process[2] than to the result of the work.
[1] Is the tension carrying the individual or vice-versa? I must make a choice without fully knowing the truth. The order of the words changes the meaning, as the title of Bolinger's article "Meaningful Word Order in Spanish" implies.
